About Makira

I am a mother of three wonderful young teens and we live with a houseful of cats with a dog sidekick. I enjoy crafts of all kinds and have a rather large obsession with anything Disney. I host two craft challenges: Colorful Options Challenge and Park Hopping My Happy Place Challenge.

⛈️ Delay Notice ⛈️

Due to unforeseen scheduling conditions, today’s challenge announcements have been temporarily suspended. The Winners Post, originally scheduled for August 1st, will now depart at 8:00am on August 2nd, featuring both June & July winners. Additionally, the August Craft Challenge will open at 6:00 PM.

We apologize for the delay and thank you for your patience and understanding.

July2025

Greetings, crafters! Welcome back! We are headed off to the UK and Chessington Park this month.

As you all know, this blog challenge is anything related to or inspired by a theme park. The montly inspiration photo is just a starting spot. ANYTHING inspired by a theme park is welcome; consider themes, colors, styles, whatever inspires you. We do have a page of inspirational themes if you need help.

Makira was inspired by the colors of the inspiration board, thinking of green and couldn’t resist The Grinch as here theme; he can “happily” be found at Universal Orlando & Hollywood.
Makira, inspired by Epic Universe in Orlando,  created a Harry Potter-inspired backpack.
CZ’s inspiration comes from the colors in the inspiration photo.

Feel free to join us this month using the inLinkx below.

Cheers, Makira

Hi Crafters! Makira here. I apologize for being MIA lately! Things are slowly getting back to normal around here, and I’m finally able to type with more ease. June was definitely a challenging month. I deeply apologize for not commenting and posting regularly. This month’s update is a bit shorter than usual, but I’ll be back to my regular flair in August! I want to sincerely thank you all for your patience and understanding as we’ve been recovering. I’ll be catching up on May and June winners over the July 4th holiday (we’re based in the U.S.). If you have any questions, feel free to drop a comment below or send an email to makira@parkhoppingmyhappyplace.com or colorfuloptionschallenge@gmail.com.

Thank you for your continued support!

June 2025

Welcome back, dear crafter; this little craft blog belongs to Makira.

Five little crafters bought some tickets and went on an adventure in the wide, wide world of theme parks.

Through the portal they went, down the pathways, alongside the waterways, near the green grass, and up an incline one after another. And when they got to the Stardust Racers, one little crafter wasn’t there. Now, where in the world was that pokey little crafter?

She wasn’t at the Wizard World of Harry Potter-Ministry of Magic, the Dark Universe, Supernintendo World, or Isle of Berk. But when they looked at the Carousel, there was the pokey little crafter.

What in the world is she doing at the carousel? She sees something! Beautifully magical animals gliding along. The others could see them too. Off they went as fast as they could. But one crafter lacked inspiration from the new sights & sounds of Epic Universe; instead, she went to the inspiration page for guidance.

“I see something,” said the pokey little crafter. Then the three little crafters were amazed. “Diane’s make. It’s beautiful!” they said.

Diane from Nellie’s Nest, our guest designer this month, was clearly inspired by the inspiration photo this month. Not just her image, but the sentiment as well.

After some time, home they went. And there, sure enough, their craft room was waiting for them, with ink, paint, stamps, yarn, and more. Makira, Eden, and CZ waited until their return to inspire us with something new. What good little crafters. Come, enjoy their makes.

CZ was inspired by the beautiful blues of the sky seen in the upper part of the carousel’s ceiling
Makira, inspired by the pinks & purples found in the ride.
Eden’s inspiration comes from the name of the ride…constellation.

“Dear me!” said Makira. “You don’t know how to join us?” Well, it’s as easy as pie! Just add your link to the Inlinkz below or tag us @parkhoppingmyhappyplace on Instagram. But if that feels too tricky, don’t worry. Simply send a picture and your details to Makira at makira@parkhoppingmyhappyplace.com, and she’ll make sure your entry is right where it should be.

A long time ago in a crafty galaxy, not so far away………

Episode XXVIII

A New Union

It is a time of creative exploration.
Crafting enthusiasts, inspired
by the magic of theme parks, have united
to embark on a new challenge with
the designers at the Colorful Options Challenge.

During this month, crafting
artists manage to create design
projects for Park Hopping’s
ultimate challenge, GALAXY’S
EDGE, an inventive Urthhean
outpost with enough theming to
enchant any guest.

Inspired by the Empire’s
sinister agents, Makira
and Eden race home toward their
craft room, custodians of the
true spirit of the challenge that can motivate
their followers and ignite
crafters expression to explore
the theme park universe…..

CZ was inspired by the theme of this month’s inspiration board, hello Tatooine.
Eden’s inspiration comes from the colors in this month inspiration image.
Makira, is clearly inspired by Galaxy’s Edge & the Mandalorian.

A vast world of inspiration serves as the backdrop for this challenge,
from the iconic thrills of the Magic Kingdom
to the epic landscapes of faraway galaxies.
What will inspire your crafting journey?

The tremendous change of words settles on a lone blog, Park Hopping My Happy Place, a craft challenge with theme park charm whose verbiage changes monthly. Its lexicon’s shift gives it an air of a simple, but lovable script from a noted storyteller. Wait? Who is it? Over here! Guess! Please, guess! Below!

May the 4th Be With You!

April 2025

Midnight, not a sound from the theme parks,
Has the moon lost her memory?
She is smiling my friends.
In the craftroom, the paper scraps collect at my feet
And the make begins to form.

Magic, all around in the theme parks
I can dream of the creatures
Living beautifully there
I remember the cats I knew at Disneyland’s park
Let their memory begin again.

Here is where these adorable animals are found: Eagle-Dollywood, Polar Bear-Marineland, Dolphins-Seaworld, Reindeer-Santa’s Village, Red Panda-Ocean Park in China, and the kitties are the Kitty Keepers found throughout Disneyland.

Every artist seems to shape
An innovative canvas.
Someone stitches and the next one mixes
And soon they will be making.

Guest Designer, Carrianne, was inspired by a fox,. These Rabbit Hole Designs are adorable!
Makira, is inspired by the Cats of Disneyland. She imagines that one might approach a present in this manner.
Eden’s inspiration comes from the plushies you see in all those tempting gift shops.

Inlikz, I must wait for the live link
I must think of a new make
And I mustn’t give up
When the thought comes, this make will post on Instagram too
And a new day will begin

Burnt out ends of smoky days
The stale, cold smell of graphite
An author sighs, another month is written
Another guess is dawning.

Join me, it’s so easy to skip me
All alone with the memory
Of my posts on the blog
If you join me, you’ll have the joy creativeness brings.
Look, a new make has begun

March 2025

Here is Makira, enjoying theme parks now, with a smile, smile, smile, sitting right there on the front of her face. It is, as far as she knows, the very best way of enjoying theme parks, and she is quite sure she’s right about that.

Anyhow, here she is, ready to introduce to you. Park Hopping My Happy Place.

When I first heard this name, I thought, just as you, “But I thought this was a craft challenge?” “Ah, yes,” said the clever voice, nodding quite knowingly, “it’s a sort of craft challenge, you see, inspired by all the wonderful bits and bobs one might discover in those splendid places we call theme parks.

Photos from Adventureland, NY-USA (top left): Lotte World, Seoul, Korea (bottom left), Everland Park, South Korea (right)

Sometimes our design team likes to take inspiration from the mood board above, and sometimes they like to use inspiration from other theme park sources. This month—-

“What about a little of both?”

Kathy is clearly inspired by the beautiful cherry blossoms and the couple in front of the carousel.
CZ was inspired by the foliage in the photo and the trains found at many of the parks.
Eden’s inspiration comes from Studio Ghibli’s character, Calcifer in Howl’s Moving Castle.
Makira takes her inspiration from the pinks in the inspiration photo and from the cats of Disneyland.

Once upon a time, a very long time ago now, about this Saturday, creatives created in craft rooms by themselves. One day when they were making, they came to open place in the middle of the internet, and in the middle of this place was an inLinkz, and, from the link provided, there came a way to play along.

Crafters & artists sat down at their computers, put there hands on top of the keyboard and began to think. If there is a challenge, somebody’s making a social media post, and I know I can enter there @parkhoppingmyhapyplace on Instagram.

Then they thought another long time, and said: “And the words of this blog have changed.” So, they began to think about who the impersonated author may be. Isn’t it funny how Makira likes to change things? Hmm! Hmm! Hmm! Who could the author be? Then they thought a little more… By that time they had thought of the author. They were getting rather tired by this time, so that is why they wrote their answer below.

Later on, when they had read, guessed, and played, all the crafters went home.

🤫👀Pssst….over here….Makira’s avatar is a clue to her impersonated story. 🍯🐻😁

February 2025

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a park-loving fan in possession of creativity and inspiration, must be in want of making.

My dear crafters, you must know that our challenge is open to all that might stir the imagination, inspired by or connected to the allure of a theme park.

“Which do you mean?” said Makira, turning round to cast a momentary glance at Eden. Then, with a smile, she added, “All parks are tolerable, but for this occasion, we shall tempt our players with images inspired by the sweetest of days—Valentine’s Day.”

Pictures Left side top to bottom: Epcot, Six Flags Great Adventure, Disneyland Tokyo Right Side top to bottom: Shanghai Disneyland, Disneyland CA, Disneyland Tokyo

Our talented designers set to work with great enthusiasm. Their lively and playful imaginations found delight in all things crafty, and the month passed most pleasantly for our design team. Should you find yourself admiring their work, we humbly request that you pay a visit to their profiles and bestow upon them your kind and gracious comments.

CZ is an avid artist. Here she clearly is inspired by the color pink in the inspiration photo above.
Eden immersed herself in crochet, crafting this stunning sweater inspired by the vibrant hues from the photo, especially captivated by the rich reds and greens.
Makira is a big fan of paper crafting. She created a beautiful card & envelope duo inspired by the colors in the inspiration photo and themed after Owl Post in Hogsmede at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Oh! My dear crafters, what a most delightful month we have before us, and we do so hope you shall join in. Fetch your art and craft supplies, and create something truly beautiful. Just think, my dear friends—how very charming it is to know that you may join not once but as often as you like! Pray, partake through the Inlinks below or on Instagram @parkhoppingmyhappyplace.
