May 2024

Lights, cameras, and welcome back crafters! Captivated by theme parks worldwide, let’s breathe life into our makes. Action!

It still gets me every time….. to see the sad ruin of the Great Movie Ride where she took her last bow at 9:30pm on August 13, 2017 after her long run of entertainment standing at the end of Hollywood Boulevard.

Here we go again, on the deck of Disney’s Hollywood Studios…..6.6 miles south of Magic Kingdom in Bay Lake, FL, USA. The pressure is on to create. Right, let’s go to work.

Ohhhh, daddy-o, are you seein’ what I’m seein’?

Crafters, Makira and Eden, are best known for their mixed media and card making skills. Now they are using their talent to work on paying homage to another famous ride….. The Great Movie Ride.

It’s been seven years……and I can still smell the waterfall from Footlight Parade. I can hear the call from Tarzan. And see the snakes from Indiana Jones. The Great Movie Ride was called a Journey into the Movies. And it was. It really was……..

You can be blase’ about some things, but not about our design team. Their creations are inspired by movies and are far more beautiful.

Eden was inspired by vintage horror movies, the colors of our mood board, and Halloween Horror Nights (mothman).
Makira was inspired by vintage movies & the vintage cars at Europa Park

CRAFT CHALLENGES

A social center of card-making hobbyists. There are mothers with children making school and birthday crafts in several languages. There are old women creating, men playing too, girls crocheting and drawing. The activity is genuine and we wait with awe.

Just inside the blog, a crating game is in progress. TWO ladies, plainly dressed, play a whimsical game. Makira and Eden, both related, exchange smiles as they view the entries. They wonder who the lucky winner will be this month.

“To make a good film, you need a script, a script, and the script,”-Alfred Hitchcock.

We decided to attempt that. Can you guess the screenwriter we attempted to copy? There’s no need to founder; the text above gives hints. Share your thoughts below in the comments.

May the theme parks that captivate your heart evermore fill you with joy and serve as wellsprings of inspiration.

That’s a wrap! Makira

  2. Great makes, Ladies!

Okay, I’m so tempted to guess Hitchcock (since you dropped his name and said there was a clue), but mostly because your prose sounds just like him in his Alfred Hitchcock Presents TV show I watched every week as a child. He would always set the stage before that week’s drama started, and he talked a lot like that. At the same time, that would be way too easy, wouldn’t it? heeheehee

    • Forgot to add, he also wrote tons of screenplays early in his career, and directed a few of them too (Saboteur, Lifeboat, Notorious) before having others do the writing for him. xox

    • Love this guess. I can just picture him talking like it. I never knew he wrote screenplays outside of what he directed. That’s fantastic! Very talented man. Thanks for stopping by! xoxo Makira

  3. Makira, I did some google research because the “Daddy-O” line made me think of a movie title I’d once heard about. Turns out that is a movie from 1958 named “Daddy-O”! The screenplay was written by author David Moessinger, who also wrote for several weekly series including Quincy MD, Murder She Wrote, and In the Heat of the Night, to name a few!

    • WOW! That’s a lot of research. That is not the script I reworded. I actually downloaded a copy of the script from another movie & rewrote the majority of the lines. The Daddy-O line is actually a direct copy from the script. About 30+ years after “Daddy-O.” The movie script I borrowed from made a lot of $$$$$. hint hint. Have a great weekend! Makira

  4. Here are some of the hints to help with this month’s writer….. The movie was released in 1997 and it grossed about 2.2 billion in the theaters. It is the fourth highest grossing movie of all time, following Avatar, Avengers & Avatar: The Way of Water.
